Phosphate (Salifert) – 0 ppm

Nitrate (Salifert) – 0 ppm

We have made every effort possible to ensure the results are as accurate as we could achieve with the facilities available to us. The salt mixes were tested with exactly the same test kit and in the same manner to keep things as consistent as possible.

Those of you with smaller aquariums looking to tap into the benefits of DC pump protein skimmers are now in luck with the upcoming Skimz Monzter Mini SN123 DC protein skimmer. The Monzter Mini has the smallest DC pump housed in a compact body that is great for hobbyists who have small sumps and setups. The new skimmer has an RPM controller with six presets, is low wattage and has a small footprint. The Skimz Monzter Mini will be available in two sizes – SN123 (120mm diameter body) and SN143 (140mm diameter body). Next week we will be able to get our fins on these skimmers when we start our coverage of InterZoo 2014.

Right on cue, Skimz is ready to show off a new high capacity aquarium water pump called the Skimz Black Panther. The Skimz is ready to show off a new high capacity aquarium water pump called the Skimz Black Panther.

The Skimz Panther pump is ideally suited to meet the needs of aquaculture and wholesalers with power ratings in horsepower increments. The Skimz Panther pump comes in sizes ranging from one half to two horsepower and it is made from industrial, non-corrosive materials with special attention paid to performance in the high volume, low pressure end of the spectrum. So you won’t be using this to push venturis style skimmers but it can flow up a ton of tanks, or a few huge ones.

Skimz claims this pump also has low heat transfer, little noise, and a very favorable power draw for the amount of flow it produces. Like all major product announcements coming out right now we’ll have to wait a couple weeks until we see the devices in person at InterZoo to get a feel for their operation in real life, as well as availability and pricing.

New Skimz PUR ReefSalt made in Germany for the Singapore-based company

Skimz PUR ReefSalt is a new salt mixture designed for the Singapore-based company. According to information we’ve seen online, the salt is specifically formulated for the reef environment and manufactured in Germany using high-quality ingredients. The brief description we saw states it contains “elevated levels of calcium, magnesium, strontium and other essential elements for coral growth and skeletal structure development.”

As with other salts we’ve seen in the market, this is most likely manufactured to specifications provided by Skimz by a third party. The online reaction is pretty good so far as reefers are lauding the salt for being quick dissolving and being high on the parameters most hobbyists with stony and mixed corals would appreciate. Although we didn’t see the parameters on the official site, one hobbyist on a Singapore message board noted salinity at 1.024, Kh at 9.6, calcium at 380 and magnesium at 1280 using Salifert Test kits. Available in 10kg and 20kg buckets the salt is retailing for around $55USD ($70 SGD) for the 20kg bucket.
